2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion

Chad Reed

On a clear cool night in Las Vegas Chad Reed was able to not only take the Championship but also the win. He used a patience race waiting for the right time to make his moves. With Davi Millsaps taking the Progrssive holeshot with Windham ans Short in in toe it looked like the setup to take the race. Reed was in 6th and the championship for Windham looked like it was a possibilty. Millsaps falls moving Reed into 3rd.He then stalked Short until he could make a clean pass taking over second. Reed continued his trek forward with a block pass just before the finish line late in the race to take the lead. With just a few laps to go Reed pulled away showing again that he should be the 2008 Monster Energy AMA/FIM Supercross Champion.

2008 Dave Coomb's Senior East/West Shoot out Winner

Ryan Dungey

Just when it looked like Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto was going to run away with the East/West Shootout Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey tracked him down to take his second Shoot out win in as many years. Villopoto who won his heat race in convincing fashion was the favorite going into the main. When he got the Progressive Holeshot it looked like he was going to win. Either Villopoto's Kawasaki was having somekind of engine problem causing him to loose power and his ability to jump some of the jumps or maybe his conditoning just hasn't gotten back to 100% since his wrist injury. What ever the reason Dungey and his Suzuki were much strong in the closing laps. Also you ad the issue of having to work through lapped traffic and it was just the formula that Dungey needed to take the win.

Seattle Photo Report
Written by Hutch with photos by Carl Stone
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

Round 16 of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross from Seattle was a race of champions, for champions and  championships. Chad Reed and Kevin Windham proved again this week that the championship isn't quite settled. Letting all that watched or raced know that it is going to take more heart and determination than maybe one man has. It is taking the heart and strength of two men too make this championship what it is. With mistakes and miscues from both riders early in the main the outcome was in question early, but these two men raced through the toughest of competition to once again find them selves at the top of the podium.

The West Coast Lites Division would crown a champion on this night. With Jason Lawrence  having a comfortable 6 point lead on early series leader Ryan Dungey. All Lawrence had to do was stay close to Dungey and he would be champion. Of course Dungey needed to win and get a little help from his other competitors to take the championship. As the raced started it was clear that Dungey was going to get his win, but he had no control of what was going on behind him. Lawrence after a bit of a slow start moved into second place for the night thus sealing his championship.

On  a different note this years Seattle race was the first race here  in 2 years that weather wasn't a factor in the results in this beautiful venue. The designers of this visually stunning stadium have been ridiculed for not putting a roof not even a retractable roof on the stadium. I for one like to see my sports played outdoors, with the exception of Supercross. Football for which this stadium was built is a sport that should be played in the elements, not air conditioned palaces. This come from a man who's favorite  home team is the Dallas Cowboys. Who were beat by the Packers in the infamous Ice Bowl. Well that is enough about that. I do believe that supercross is so much more beautiful when raced in fair weather conditions. The grace, strength and skill of the riders can not be fully appreciated in poor track and weather conditions.

Jason Lawrence 2008 Monster Energy AMA West Coast Lites Supercross Champion.

Boost Mobile Yamaha's Jason Lawrence takes second place tonight behind Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey but takes the  Championship by 3 points. Factory Yamaha's Broc Hepler takes the final podium spot.

Supercross Class

Supercross class has given us another great night of racing. With Chad Reed going down in the first turn. Kevin Windham gathering up a tough block cover while leading and dropping several spots while stopping to remove it. Windham made a mad charge back to first only to have Reed make even a greater charge from last to second. With last lap bar banging between Andrew Short and Chad Reed it will go down as one of the best races of the year.  This Championship tightens up a little more, but has Kdub run out of time.
